FIGHTING “MR. SELF”(Part I)

For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh:  (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;)  Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;  And having in a readiness to revenge all disobedience, when your obedience is fulfilled.

II Corinthians 10:3-6 (kjv)

Self is a great hindrance to the work of the Spirit in a believer’s life. It stands in the way of the Holy Spirit’s operations like a great adversary. It is a stronghold that must be pulled down.

The battle against self is not a battle that is fought once, it is a daily battle (I Corinthians 15:30). But with each victory you grant the Holy Spirit a greater realm of operation in your life.

The Spirit of God has the power but He will not raise a finger in the conflict against Self without the consent of the man.

The Holy Spirit will not fight this battle for you; God has sworn that His Spirit will not strive with man (Genesis 6:3).

However the irony is that man too cannot fight this battle, no not by himself; he doesn’t have the power nor weapons in his arsenal that can effectively defeat Self. The Spirit of God has the power but He will not raise a finger in the conflict against Self without the consent of the man.

At the consent of the man in whom He resides, the Spirit of God provides the intelligence, weapons and power to tear down the fortress of Self.

The Spirit will reveal the operations of Self in your life, He will then bring you to the point where you must decide whether you wish to authorize the attack against the operation of Self within you or allow it to expand its control.

The sad truth is that while we remain in the flesh, Self has a place within us (we cannot completely rid ourselves of its presence).

The base of its operation, the core of its strength, is determined by the extent to which you allow the Spirit to limit its (Self) field of influence.

Self is the constant enemy within that must be disposed.

This is why, as a good soldier of Christ, you must put on the whole armour of God everyday and be constantly on guard to withstand the never-ending onslaught from the enemy of your soul.

Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.

 Ephesians 6:11 (kjv)

P.S. The second part to this will be up shortly. We will be discussing how Self manifests.

  2. Self is the arc enemy of whoever wants to enter heaven…the spirit of God is the comforter sent to whoever wants to make heaven.

It is expedient to overcome self by the spirit indwelling.
