We wouldn’t have done the very best if we forget to set health goals which will help maintain the body that would be working to achieve the goals in other spheres on interest.
Without setting health goals, we’d risk delaying or a cut down on fulfilment of the other goals.
To bypass this, we’d need to do the important as it concerns our health.
These are some of the goals you could consider.
1)Cutting off on carbonated drinks.
Hard, hard yeahhh. The spontaneous burst of energy and how you’d feel good immediately…. I knowww but then …..
Intake of soda is a risk factor to chronic health disease, obesity, dental health decay and cancer
Considering this, the disadvantages outweighs the benefit in the long term and here’s wisdom persuading us to seek alternatives.
2)Adequate Hydration:
The average 60kg adult is supposed to have at least 3L of water daily and a way to achieving this is to have a bottle of water with you more often.
Replace the fuzzy drinks with water. Start your day with water, end the day with it. By this, you’re providing a better working condition for your kidneys.
3)To stop taking herbal concoctions:
You don’t want to argue that our parents used these and came out strong ‘cos I expect you to know better if you’re seeing this- Yes you should.
Herbal concoctions have positive and negative enantiomers which are not separated like pharmaceutical companies would have done. Herbal concoctions also do not have approved regulations or prescriptions and has been researched to hamper health as it leads to chronic kidney failure which is now on the rise in Nigeria.
4)Cutting down on refined food:
Gone are the days when pizza, shawarma and the other ‘sendemendes’ was equal to rich eating- not anymore.
These refined foods has been and is being researched with increasing degree of health risk.
Choose vegetables, choose balanced diet. A few times it could happen that way, but let it not be on most days.
5)Sleeping for at least 7 hours in a day on most days:
About 3-4 years ago, it was viral that if you sleep for 7 hours you’d have slept for — years
Please, leave motivational speakers to their own clap-tracks
It has been researched that presently, the average adult needs about 7 to 9 hours of sleep to function optimally. Yes a few times because of career, ministerial or family duties one could have a spill over but this should be occasional and not the norm. Inculcate healthy sleep routines this year to lead a better life.
6) Losing Weight :
This is easily one way to maintain physical and mental stamina this year.
If your body mass index is higher than 25, then you should consider ways to lose out some.
Exercise, intermittent fasting, portion control are some of the routes you could explore.
Please, do not use those weight loss pills because there’s usually rebound weight gain.
More importantly, as mentioned in previous blog post, the means to an end is as important to the end, so choose more noble means.
7)Incorporate better hygiene:
Poor hygiene is inevitably a risk factor to many illnesses.
Poor vaginal hygiene predisposes to having UTI, poor food preparation method could cause acute gastroenteritis. Dirty drainage and uncleared bushes predisposes to culturing breeding points for mosquitoes and ultimately malaria.
Change your bedsheet weekly, Brush your teeth at least daily, wash your hands as soon as you get home with many others.
Like it’s usually said, prevention is better than cure. We can cut down on some illnesses by some of the choices we make.
It’s not enough for us to have a knowledge about all these, but we must go a step further to alter our behaviours so we can live a more healthy life.
