Or are you [so blind as to] trifle with…the wealth of his kindness and forbearance…or actually ignorant [of the fact] that God’s kindness is intended to lead you to repent…
I recently connected with one of my secondary school classmates online and we got talking. We chatted about how we had been flogged and all of the interesting things that happened in secondary school. Just as were about to end the chat, I remembered…You’ve not spoken to him about the needful.
So I asked, without mincing words, “Fred are you saved?”
He replied, “Yeah, I’m safe. God has been saving me…”
“Oh waoh!” I was taken aback by the answer, but I decided to probe further.
“I mean sa-V-ed…” stressing the ‘–v’ and trying to explain, “I mean repenting of your sins and accepting Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour.”
He sent an emoji of laughter. “You know what…” he said. “Leave all those religious stuff alone. He has been saving me from accidents, kidnappers and all that…” he replied.
Playing on God’s goodness and never acknowledging His severity will surely bring damnation!!
“Fred…” I said, in all seriousness, “…having Jesus as your Lord and Saviour is never religious. You say He’s been saving you which is quite good to know, but the reason why He’s been saving you is so you can be saved.” I tried to persuade him, but he wouldn’t bulge.
After my discussion with Fred reached its indecisive end, the conversation got me thinking about how people often esteem the goodness of God over the need to give their lives over to Him. An average person would say that God is love, merciful, kind, patient and all, but what most fail to remember that these attributes God displays is a means to an end –which is Salvation. Playing on God’s goodness and never acknowledging His severity will surely bring damnation!!
Or are you [so blind as to] trifle with and presume upon and despise and underestimate the wealth of his kindness and forbearance and long-suffering and patience? Are you unmindful or actually ignorant [of the fact] that God’s kindness is intended to lead you to repent (to change your mind and inner man to accept God’s will)? Romans 2:4 (AMPC)
He has preserved you to the end of the year not merely for the fun of it, but so that you can be saved, so if you’re not, this is the time!!!
HAPPY NEW YEAR IN ADVANCE 🙂
