Research according to Forbes shows that a whopping 80 percent of new year’s resolutions fail within the month, courtesy of not making SMAT lifestyle choices.
You can avoid this by setting goals that are specific, measurable, and time-bound.
Here are lifestyle disciplines that could improve your quality of life, give a sense of fulfilment and help on your personal development journey.
1)Reading & knowledge seeking:
Please, do not live this year only on entertainment videos, seek knowledge.
Listen to podcasts, watch YouTube videos.
See areas you need to develop and start reading books in those areas. You’d certainly be better for it.
2)Living Authentically:
There’s no better way to live than to live authentically.
If you’ve been stifling any part of you to accommodate naysayers, this is the year to unlearn and evolve-choose a more healthy lifestyle.
Live boldly with your values. Don’t say yes when you want to say a no. Speak the truth even if your voice shakes.
Embrace your unique perks. Polish through your weaknesses, Live fully.

3)Making & spending time with loved ones more:
At the end, your family and loved ones would be the ones to stand by your side when in need, sickness and in death.
It’s not wise to displace them to attend to other needs. A better approach is to carry them with you as you chase your other goals. Schedule time weekly to reach out, be present at celebrations.
Do ALL you can to show they really mean so much to you.
4)Living a more organized life :
Living a more organized life is a sure way to increase productivity and if you know that you’ve been the exact opposite of what it means to be organized, this is one you should make plans to work on.
Plan your week and day. Return whatever you’re using to where you picked from. Organize your files on your PC or phone- It saves time & cuts down on mistakes. Get your outfit for the week mentally ready with spares should there be wardrobe malfunction.
There’s usually a burst of feel good hormones when you live a more organized life.
5)Doing something kind everyday:
You can build a lifestyle that radiates love as you share spaces with others.
Compliment someone at work, reach out to someone who has been MIA on social media, stand up for someone who’s being side-lined. This is easily one of the ways to gaining positive energy & momentum.

7)Cutting your coat according to your size:
I recently had to stay in a hotel for the night and as soon as I was shown the rack rate, I chuckled, smiled, looked at the receptionist and said
“I won’t be able to afford this for now, thank you”.
And then, I went in search for an affordable alternative which I got in little time.
Please, don’t do anything to impress anybody. “Aso-ebi” comes & you can’t afford, just communicate the other ways you’d like to be present.
The economy is already doing a lot already & if you’re everything but not frugal, it’s exactly to what end?
8)Doing the best whatever your hands finds to do:
Build a culture of excellence. Take out “anyhowness” or “balabala” from your dictionary. You have a project, give your best, your service to God, offer the very best.
Be the best spouse, daughter, friend, colleague, service provider to anyone and wherever you find yourself.
9)Taking breaks:
About a year ago, I remember someone saying “you’re a workaholic, I know you’d…………” but my reply left him in surprise. What was it?
I said,” thanks and no thanks”.
The first because I knew the compliment was from a good place, the latter because I no longer wanted to be seen as a workaholic.
I was beginning to see the beauty of cultivating a balanced work, family and rest life. Use your weekends to really rest and catch up with friends. Do not agree to getting paid so you could work during your breaks.

10)Creating a saving plan:
No matter how little. Have a saving plan. Whether “kolo” or daily contributions, just get started. Don’t eat with the two sides of your mouth. You can join communities to bring this to fruition.
To cultivate a wholesome lifestyle, we’d need to be disciplined & quite honestly, we can’t hit a target we’ve not set and cannot see- you’d need to write them down, don’t just leave in your head.
Which of these would you want to cultivate?

Cheers to a wholesome lifestyle.
