FAITH HEALTH

HEALTH MIRRORED THROUGH THE SCRIPTURES.

My recent study through the Scriptures is with whispers of the below about God.

Intentional

Wholesome

Complete

Thorough

Excellent

Infallible.

A truth is this – God isn’t just interested in our ‘spiritual’ lives.

Spiritual lives in that context- This is because we’ve made segregation of this one life into spiritual & secular.

He wants to help us to live fully in every way bringing glory to Him.

Here’s a part of The Sciptures that affirms this truth.

2 Peter 1:3

For His divine power has bestowed upon us all things that [are requisite and suited] to life and godliness, through the [full, personal] knowledge of Him Who called us by and to His own glory and excellence (virtue).

Let us consider

……Has bestowed upon us ALL things.

Not a few

Not some.

ALL THINGS!

……Suited to LIFE AND GODLINESS.

Here’s a reminder that His power doesn’t only show up when it’s about godliness(the spiritual life) & dumps us to figure it out when it comes to other spheres of life.

Parenting, finances, health, talk about it. His power through His word provides all we need.

I think that should be exciting to know.

……Through THE FULL, PERSONAL KNOWLEGE of HIM who has..

This brings to us of the possibility of not having a full knowledge of Him or just having a corporate knowledge.

At salvation, the knowledge of Him we have is probably a little until we start growing to experiencing and seeing all of the goodness in Him.

Again, our idea about God might primarily stem from what is passed to us by others before we start growing & having our own personal convictions

Hence, it’s imperative for every believer to desire growth.

Now to the Bible verses reminding us God is very much interested in our health.

Hebrews 12:14 AMPC

Strive to live in peace with everybody and pursue that consecration and holiness without which no one will [ever] see the Lord.

“So how does this relate to health ?” someone’s possibly asking.

A quick definition of health.

Health, according to the World Health Organization, is “a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease and infirmity”.

Now which of the health parameters does the above seem to corroborate?

Social health of course!

Social health can be defined as our ability to interact and form meaningful relationships with others. It also relates to how comfortably we can adapt in social situations.

Living in peace with every other person we share a space with influences on other health parameters and our overall health.

The Bible is replete with admonitions that make room for peaceful social relationships.

I think you should take a minute to say “thank you” to God for all of those ‘spiritual & hard’ injunctions which inevitably is a contributor to good health.

Philippians 4:8

For the rest, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is worthy of reverence and is honorable and seemly, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely and lovable, whatever is kind and winsome and gracious, if there is any virtue and excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think on and weigh and take account of these things [fix your minds on them].

You’re what you think is a saying I think you should be familiar with .

Yes, ‘cos your thoughts influences you mentally & creates your reality.

What is mental health?

Mental health includes our emotional, psychological, and social well-being. It affects how we think, feel, and act.

The above verse undoubtedly if and when followed is a mental stabilizer.

1 Timothy 4

For physical training is of some value (useful for a little), but godliness (spiritual training) is useful and of value in everything and in every way, for it holds promise for the present life and also for the life which is to come.

I love how the scriptures doesn’t minimize or relegate some things.

Didn’t say physical training is useless

Neither did it say it’s unnecessary

Didn’t say it’s out of place

But

It rather affirms it’s value- even though little.

If the Bible didn’t absolutely relegate the place of physical training(exercise), why should you?

Be active, take brisk walks, skip, jog, sign up in the gymn, if you can.

It is valuable.

It makes for physical health.

Moving on,

Have you ever agreed to a food date with a friend knowing fully well your tommy had well enough but deceived yourself into saying you won’t eat there but bring home & possibly put in the fridge?

Have you ever been woken up to cook early enough so you won’t snack on junks when you’re hungry later?

Proverbs 25:16 AMPC

Have you found [pleasure sweet like] honey? Eat only as much as is sufficient for you, lest, being filled with it, you vomit it.

Gluttony is that thing you & I indulge in every now & then and we find it easy to rationalize or minimize .

There are two possibilities from overeating -the first mentioned above(vomiting) & the 2nd obesity.

Eating should primarily be to maintain the body’s function but eating at impulse could be a sign of lack of self control which grieves The Holy Spirit.

Gluttony could inevitably lead to obesity which is a risk factor to many dieseases.

So moving forward, what checks would you put in place to curtail on overeating?

Proverbs 16:24 AMC

Pleasant words are as a honeycomb, sweet to the mind and healing to the body.

Have you ever been spoken to by a significant other person and it seemed your day was ruined?

Have you ever said something in anger that had you in a strained relationship?

The words spoken to us & that we speak are pathways to our souls hence why we should be very sensitive to what we say & what we allow others say to us.

The Bible again admonishes us to have our words seasoned with grace.

The words we speak exerts a great influence on mental & social health.

I hope we’d start making conscious effort to being kind in words.

It actually has been interesting to see how the seemingly ‘spiritual’ injunctions influences my health.

What measures that would strengthen your health are you going to take up?

Has this blessed you?

Please be kind to share with another person.

Thank you!
